Installing Front-Axle Carrier

WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

WARNING: Caustic fluids

Danger of chemical burns

→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.

→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

NOTE: Aggressive fluids

Risk of damage to components and surfaces

→ Do not spill fluids.

→ In the event of contact, wash the component or surface with water.

→ Replace components that are already damaged.

Information

All screws and threaded joints on the axle must be tightened in vehicle position. Vehicle position means: vehicle standing on its wheels, or the wheel suspension is raised with a universal vehicle lift. Dimension -1- , from lower edge of wing to center of axle corresponds to vehicle position. The current height can be found in → 4495TW ADJUSTMENT VALUES FOR SUSPENSION ALIGNMENT . Always observe the following points!

On vehicles with air springs, the respective air spring must be bled using the Porsche System Tester. → 4301IN BLEEDING AND FILLING THE LEVELLING SYSTEM
Vehicle position can be set by carefully raising the relevant wheel bearing housing.
Use an intermediate layer (hard rubber)! Do not damage the brake cover plate.

Screws and nuts are Geomet-coated and must not be greased.
Grease the splines of the drive shaft slightly with aluminum paste Optimoly TA.
Drive shafts must not be left hanging from the joint stop! Tie them up.

Information

Working with steel flexi-pipes

Steel flexi-pipes are particularly prone to kinking and pinching.
Be particularly careful with steel flexi-pipes during removal, storage and reinstallation.
Mark the installation position of the pipe with a paint marker during removal.
Steel flexi-pipes must never be installed twisted.

Installation is performed in reverse order.

Front-axle support to front crash support: Tightening torque 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) +180°

Front-axle support to rear crash support: Tightening torque 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) +90°

Front-axle carrier to body at front: Tightening torque 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) +90°

Front-axle carrier to body at rear: Tightening torque 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) +90°

Spring strut to lower trailing arm: Tightening torque 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) +120°

Brake calliper to wheel bearing housing: Tightening torque 140 Nm (104 ftlb.)

Lower trailing arm to wheel bearing housing: Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)

Upper trailing arm to wheel bearing housing: Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)

Steel flexi-pipes to front axle valve block: Tightening torque 28 Nm (21 ftlb.)

Fit mounting element for front power-steering pressure line holder while carefully guiding the elevating platform into position.

Secure the upper trailing arms using the spring compressor VW 552 before removing the elevating platform.
