Loosening Main Wire Harness In Engine Compartment At The Left

→ The main wire harness contains all airbag lines, antenna lines and optical waveguides.

→ The main wire harness must not be separated and is always replaced as a complete wire harness when carrying out extensive repairs.

→ If individual lines are damaged, shut off these lines and install new lines. Lay the new lines along the main wire harness and secure them to the main wire harness.

Always comply with the regulations for handling ESD-sensitive components!

• Always wear approved work clothes and shoes when carrying out assembly work  .
• Do not remove new parts from ESD (electrostatic discharge) protective packaging until shortly before installation  .
• Do not touch electric pins and plug contacts  .

1. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on front left airbag sensor. → 695119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIRBAG SENSOR
2. Disconnect electric plug connections under the left headlight.
   1. 2.1. Release electric plug connections -1-  , disconnect them and unclip them from the headlight mounting.
   2. 2.2. Unclip antenna lines -2-  from the headlight mounting and release and disconnect them.

3. Unscrew fastening nut -1-  and remove ground lines from the ground point in the front left wheel housing.

   Vehicles with air suspension 

4. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the front left air-spring strut. → 433019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT AIR-SPRING STRUT

   All vehicles 

5. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the front left brake pad wear contact. → 463656 REPLACING FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS
6. Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the front left speed sensor. → 451155 REPLACING FRONT SPEED SENSOR
7. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the front left level sensor, if fitted. → 431855 REPLACING FRONT LEVEL SENSOR

   Level sensor connector 

8. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the engine coolant level sensor.

   Vehicles with PASM 

9. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  on sensor for body.

   Disconnecting electric plug connections on engine coolant level sensor and sensor for body 

   All vehicles 

10. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on hydraulic unit. → 453019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HYDRAULIC UNIT
11. Unscrew fastening nut -2-  and remove ground lines from the ground point on the front left longitudinal member.

    Disconnecting electric plug connection for hydraulic unit and ground line 

12. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the wiper motor.
13. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  on the brake fluid level sensor.
14. Unscrew fastening nut -3- and remove ground lines from the ground point on the left cowl panel.

    Disconnecting electric plug connections 

15. Loosen holder -1-  for electric lines from the housing for the fuse box on the cowl panel -arrows-  .
16. Loosen grommet -1-  on the left out of the body.
    1. 16.1. Unhook locking mechanisms for the inner ring -2-  (-arrows-  ).
    2. 16.2. Pull inner ring out of the outer ring -3-.
    3. 16.3. Pull grommet -1-  on the left out of the body into the passenger compartment.

17. Unclip main wire harness in engine compartment at the left from all holders.
18. Carefully guide main wire harness in engine compartment at the left into the passenger compartment.
