Hydraulic System Filling And Bleeding: Filling

CAUTION: The following procedure is for filling and bleeding the system with correct oil volume. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the active driveline system.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING .
Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .
CAUTION: Make sure the battery is disconnected. Failure to follow this instruction will cause a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) to be flagged on the vehicle.

NOTE: The electrical connector on the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) hydraulic motor has a two stage clip.

Move the clip upwards as illustrated.
Release the clip as illustrated to disconnect the electrical connector.
Remove the fluid filler plug.
CAUTION: Make sure the correct specification of oil is used.
- Fill the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) to the level of the of the fill plug. Refer to: HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FILLING AND BLEEDING .
WARNING: Fluid loss is unavoidable, use absorbent cloth or a container to collect the fluid.

CAUTION: Do not over tighten the filler plug. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the actuator assembly.

Install the filler plug.

Torque Specification: 12 Nm
Manually close the two pipe port valves.

BLEEDING
Using the approved Jaguar Land Rover diagnostic equipment, bleed the active driveline hydraulic system.
General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover diagnostic equipment
- Raise the vehicle.
- Inspect the hydraulic system connections for leaks.
CAUTION: If the two pipe port valves are in the closed position the bleeding procedure has been unsuccessful.

Once the bleeding procedure is complete check the valves are in the open position. If the valves are still in the closed position, Using the approved Jaguar Land Rover diagnostic equipment re-run the bleed the active driveline hydraulic system.

Remove the fluid filler plug.
CAUTION: Make sure the correct specification of oil is used.
- Fill the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) to the level of the of the fill plug. Refer to: HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FILLING AND BLEEDING .
WARNING: Fluid loss is unavoidable, use absorbent cloth or a container to collect the fluid.

CAUTION: Do not over tighten the filler plug. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the actuator assembly.

Install the filler plug.

Torque Specification: 12 Nm
