Hydraulic System Draining, Filling And Bleeding: Draining

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING .

  2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. CAUTION: Make sure the battery is disconnected. Failure to follow this instruction will cause a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) to be flagged on the vehicle.
    NOTE: The electrical connector on the RDU hydraulic motor has a two stage clip.

    Move the clip upwards as illustrated.

  4. G11716207

    Release the clip as illustrated to disconnect the electrical connector.

  5. G11716208

    Remove the fluid filler plug.

  6. G11716209
    • Remove the drain plug.
    • Drain the hydraulic oil from the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) and collect in a suitable container.
    • Install the drain plug.
    • Torque Specification: 16 Nm 

    FILLING 

  8. CAUTION: Make sure the correct specification of oil is used.

    Fill the RDU to the level of the of the fill plug.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

    • Install the fluid filler plug.
    • Torque Specification: 12 Nm 
  10. Connect the RDU hydraulic motor electrical connector.

    Manually close the two pipe port valves.

  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

    BLEEDING 

  14. Using the approved Land Rover diagnostic equipment, bleed the active driveline hydraulic system.

    General Equipment: Land Rover diagnostic equipment 

    • Raise the vehicle.
    • Inspect the hydraulic system connections for leaks.
  16. CAUTION: If the two pipe port valves are in the closed position the bleeding procedure has been unsuccessful.

    Once the bleeding procedure is complete check the valves are in the open position. If the valves are still in the closed position, Using the approved Land

    Rover diagnostic equipment re-run the bleed the active driveline hydraulic system.

    General Equipment: Land Rover diagnostic equipment 

  17. Lower the vehicle.
