SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
"2 WHEEL DRIVE ONLY - TRACTION REDUCED"
  • Rear drive system fault
  • Anti-lock brake system fault
  • Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the all wheel drive control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
  • Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the anti-lock brake system control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
"4 WHEEL DRIVE FAULT - 2 WHEEL DRIVE ONLY"
  • Rear drive system fault
  • Anti-lock brake system fault
  • Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the all wheel drive control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
  • Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the anti-lock brake system control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
4 wheel drive engaged when 2 wheel drive expected
  • Ambient temperature < -10°  C
  • Terrain response special program selected
  • Hill descent control selected
  • Normal operation, no action required. Power transfer unit remains engaged to maintain oil temperature in power transfer unit and rear drive unit
  • Normal operation, no action required. Power transfer unit remains engaged when a special program is selected
  • Normal operation, no action required. Power transfer unit remains engaged when hill descent control is selected
Rumbling noise from the rear of the vehicle varying at different vehicle speeds and loads
  • Rear drive unit internal failure
  • Road noise
  • Worn or damaged driveshaft joint
  • Wheel bearing
  • Another component contacting the front/rear drive halfshaft

Noise from hydraulic system when cornering or when shifting from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive (or from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive)
  • Hydraulic system fault
  • Rear drive unit oil low/worn/contaminated
