Removing rear wheel bearing housing

  1. Use puller set WE 1649  to press the drive shaft peg max. → Control value: +10 mm  into the wheel hub so that the drive shaft splines are no longer engaged in the wheel hub.
  2. Disconnect connector -1-  from speed sensor.

  3. Loosen upper control arm from the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 3.1. Mark the position of the eccentric screw -1-  with respect to the wheel bearing housing.
    2. 3.2. Screw off nut -4-  and remove eccentric washer -3-  .
    3. 3.3. Pull out screw -1-  .
  4. Unscrew fastening screw -4-.

  5. Release locking lugs -1-  and remove stone guard -2-  .

  6. Support wheel bearing housing.

    Mounting for support T10149 

    1. 6.1. Turn the wheel hub in such a way that a bore for a wheel bolt is at the top.
    2. 6.2. Support T10149  must be secured to the wheel hub with a wheel bolt -arrow- 
    3. 6.3. Support T10149  must now be fitted into the transmission jack WE 1082. 
    4. 6.4. Lift up the wheel bearing housing.
  7. Unscrew fastening screw -2-  and remove washer -1-  .

  8. Loosen lower trailing arm on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 8.1. Screw off nut -3-. 
    2. 8.2. Unscrew screw -1-  and remove spacer tube -2-. 

      Information 

      Drive shafts must not be left hanging from the joint stop! Hold the drive shaft or tie it up if necessary.

  9. Swivel wheel bearing housing aside and pull drive shaft out of the wheel bearing housing.
  10. If the wheel bearing housing will be replaced, perform the following tasks:
    1. 10.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  and remove cover plate for brake disc -2-  .

    2. 10.2. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  and remove speed sensor -2-  .

    3. 10.3. Clamp the wheel bearing housing in a vice with aluminum protective jaws.
    4. 10.4. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  and remove wheel bearing unit -2-  .
