Installing Engine
WARNING:
Danger of objects or loads falling down
- Risk of squashing or crushing
→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
NOTE:
Tightening torques, tightening sequence and assembly overviews for the engine and transmission:
- Group 1: → 1X00IN TECHNICAL VALUES
- Group 2: → 2X00IN TECHNICAL VALUES
- Group 3: → 3X00IN TECHNICAL VALUES
NOTE:
- Replace O-rings on the cooling system.
- Clean plug connection and coolant hoses before assembly.
- Coat O-rings and coolant hoses with Kluber Plus Gel (Part No. 000.043.205.93).
- Remove stoppers before fitting the coolant lines and hoses.
NOTE:
- Replace O-rings.
- Grease O-rings with a light coating of Kluber Syntheso Glep (Part No.: 000.043.204.68).
- Check that the intermediate plate on the joint flange is engaged and pushed onto the dowel sleeves.
- Check that dowel sleeves -A-
for centring the engine and transmission are fitted in the cylinder block.
- 2.1. Insert missing dowel sleeves.
- Place starter in installation position.
- 3.1. Fit bottom screw before fitting the engine at the starter!
- Guide engine into the engine compartment using workshop crane WE 1188
.
- 4.1. Guide oil pan past the ATF lines.
- Mount engine on transmission.
- 5.1. Loosen tension strap.
- 5.2. Tighten screws -3... 5- .
- Place engine and transmission in installation position.
- 6.1. Relieve spindle of the support bracket 10-222 A .
- 6.2. Lower the workshop crane and lower the engine and transmission onto the engine mounts.
- 6.3. Remove workshop crane and support bracket.
- Secure the engine to the engine mounts.
- 7.1. Replace screw.
- Tighten screws -6... 11- .
- Secure the flywheel on the transmission.
- 9.1. Screw in screw -arrow- hand-tight.
- 9.2. Turn the crankshaft a further 120° in direction of rotation of the engine.
- 9.3. Screw in second screw hand-tight.
- 9.4. Turn the crankshaft a further 120° in direction of rotation of the engine.
- 9.5. Tighten third screw to the specified tightening torque.
- 9.6. Tighten the remaining screws to the specified tightening torque.
Flywheel
- Further installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
- 10.1. Replace seals and O-rings.
- 10.2. Replace tie-wraps that were removed.
- 10.3. Always use new aluminium screws.
- 10.4. Coat O-rings with a suitable agent.
- When installing a reconditioned engine, check the engine-oil level before starting the engine.
