Disassembling front spring strut
- Risk of squashing or bruising
→ Do not reach into the danger area.
→ Relieve the tension on components before starting work.
→ Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
Shock absorbers must always be replaced in pairs as soon as at least one of the following preconditions is met:
- → Mileage: 25, 000 km (15, 500 mls)
- → Age: 2 Jahre
- Observe the correct allocation (engine variant/chassis variant) when installing new coil springs and/or shock absorbers .
- Springs must only be replaced in pairs .
- PASM line (PASM only)
- Hexagon nut
- Spring-strut mount
- Mounting saddle (on conventional spring struts, the mounting saddle is integrated in the spring strut, while on spring struts with PASM, the mounting saddle is screwed to the bearing (3)
- Insert
- Upper concave support
- Coil spring
- Rubber stop
- Boot
- Damper cap
- Lower concave support
- Spring washer
- Vibration damper
The front spring strut is disassembled and assembled using the tool stationary spring tensioning device WE 1610 .
Before inserting the spring strut, the tool stationary spring tensioning device WE 1610 must be set up and adjusted in accordance with the operating instructions provided by the manufacturer.
- Insert spring strut in the stationary spring tensioning device WE 1610
. → Spring strut in spring tensioning device (conventional spring strut shown)
Spring strut in spring tensioning device (conventional spring strut shown)
- Applies only to conventional spring strut:
Align mounting saddle chamfer concentrically with respect to the mounting plate.
Applies only to PASM spring strut:
Spring strut alignment (conventional)
Insert threaded bolts -1- of the spring strut into the bores -2- on the mounting plate.
Spring strut alignment (PASM)
- Pre-tension spring strut using drive nut -1-
until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
Tensioning spring strut
- Unscrew nut on piston rod → Unscrewing nut on piston rod
. Use socket-wrench insert 3353
on PASM spring struts.
Unscrewing nut on piston rod
- Relieve all tension on the spring strut using drive nut -1- (there must be no tension on the coil spring!).
- Remove all components from the piston rod.
