Installing Pulley (Vibration Damper)

Information 

Protect the radiator fins using cardboard or a sheetmetal panel to prevent damage.

Cover wing and peripheral parts to protect them.

Information 

• A feather key is inserted into the crankshaft. When fitting the vibration damper (crankshaft pulley), make sure that the feather key slots into the groove.
• The feather key must not fall into the engine.
• Vibration damper (crankshaft pulley) and crankshaft stub must be cleaned.

1. Position vibration damper onto the crankshaft stub.
   1. Press the vibration damper slightly towards the engine, while at the same time turning it until it slips towards the timing-case cover.
   2. Be careful of the feather key. > Vibration damper on crankshaft stub

2. Fit new  central screw -arrow-  hand-tight.

   Information

3. > 9679/3 - Counter-hold tool  with the rectangular tube from > 9732 - holding wrench  must be inserted into the vibration damper and turned until it locks.
   1. Get a second worker to use the counter-hold tool.

4. Using a torque wrench and a suitable socket, tighten the central screw > Large torque wrench on the central screw  and only  carry out step-by-step torque tightening. 

   Step 1: > Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) 

   Step 2: > Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) 

   Step 3: > Tightening torque 100 Nm (74 ftlb.)

   NOTIFICATION 

   Incorrect handling of tools 

   • Risk of damage to the body 
     • Only use tools approved by Porsche.
     • Always ensure that the tool is seated correctly.
     • Protect the body and interior of the vehicle from damage with protective covers.
     • Cover delicate components with cardboard or sheetmetal panels.
5. Mark the vibration damper and central screw for torque-angle tightening using a water-resistant marker -3-  .
   1. Make an initial mark on the vibration damper and central screw at the same position -1 and 2-  .
   2. Make a final mark in accordance with the specified torque angle only on the vibration damper -3-  .
   3. Turn the torque-angle tightener step by step from the starting mark -1 and 2-  on the vibration damper to the end mark on the vibration damper -3- (-direction of arrow-  ).

      Step 4: > Torque angle 180°
