Fitting connecting-rod bearings 

1. Identification surface

   Install connecting rod with identification surface facing the exhaust side.

   The marking on rod and cap must be on the same side

   *YMMDD + consecutive 5-digit number

2. Fit bearing shells flush here; press in opposite side/check groove position

   Classification of pistons 

   1. Data matrix code: 8 x 8 mm
   2. Cylinder bank marking
   3. Dimensional group marking (X)/Only one dimensional group (X) permitted per engine
   4. Mahle short numeric code
   5. Porsche short numeric code without mean group
   6. Marking area for weight classes (+/-)
   7. Arrow marking in direction of travel
   8. Mahle inspection stamp
   9. Arrow marking in direction of travel
   10. Marking area for weight classes (+/-)
   11. Dimensional group marking (X)

Classification of pistons 

Only one weight class (+/-) permitted per engine.

If the weight class/dimensional group cannot be determined, the components (piston with piston rings, pin and circlip) must be weighed.

Allocation of connecting-rod bearing shells: 

The combination of bearing shells red/blue and blue/red have the same tolerance class as yellow/yellow.
