Subsequent Work

WARNING: Steering-angle sensor not calibrated or calibrated incorrectly 
  • Unexpected vehicle handling 
  • Steering-angle sensor does not function 
  • Malfunction in steering-angle sensor 

    → After working on wheel suspension parts, when replacing the steering-angle sensor, and after changing the wheel alignment values, calibrate the steering-angle sensor using the PIWIS Tester. 

    → Keep the front wheels in straight-ahead position on the measuring platform during calibration.

    → For vehicles with electromechanical steering, also re-teach the electric steering lock settings.

If the previous wheel alignment values (on rear and/or front axle) were changed, the following subsequent work must be performed.

  1. Reactivate level control (sub-procedure "Activating height control") using the PIWIS Tester.
  2. Calibrate the steering-angle sensor.

  3. Teach power-steering gear (steering lock settings).

  4. If installed:  Calibrate distance measuring sensor control unit (ACC sensor).

  5. If installed:  Calibrate front camera.

  6. If installed:  Calibrate infrared camera.

    > 908055 REPLACING INFRARED CAMERA

  7. Teach headlight beam adjustment using the PIWIS Tester. 
    1. 7.1 Connect the Tester to the vehicle and switch on the Tester.
    2. 7.2 Switch on ignition.
    3. 7.3 Start diagnostics.
    4. 7.4 Select "Front-end electronics control unit".
    5. 7.5 Select Maintenance/repairs tab.
    6. 7.6 Select "Teach headlight beam adjustment" in the menu and press F12 to continue.
    7. 7.7 Follow the instructions on the Tester.
