Removing Rear Spring Damper

WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
  • Risk of crushing 
  • Risk of damage to components 

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

Information 

Always use an intermediate layer (e.g. hard rubber) when using the jack!

  1. Support wheel bearing housing using >VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  .
  2. Loosen holder for level sensor -2-  from the trailing arm.

    Mounting for level sensor holder

    1. 2.1 Unscrew screw -1-  .
  3. Loosen rear upper control arm -1-  on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 3.1 Remove threaded joint -2-  .
  4. Loosen threaded joints for trailing arm on rear axle housing (do not remove).

    Mounting for trailing arm on rear axle housing

    1. 4.1 Mark the position of the eccentric screw -1-  .
    2. 4.2 Loosen eccentric threaded joint -1-  .

      Information 

      • Loosen or fit nut on the trailing arm using the specified tools. 
    3. 4.3 Loosen threaded joint -2-  .
  5. Remove spring damper -1-  on the body.

    Mounting for shock absorber on body

    1. 5.1 Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .
  6. Remove electric plug connection for PASM -1-  on the spring damper -2-  .

    Electric plug connection for PASM on shock absorber

    1. 6.1 >VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  must be lowered slowly. Carefully guide the PASM line at the same time.
    2. 6.2 Release and disconnect electric plug connection for PASM.
    WARNING: Improper handling of fluid-carrying lines 
    • Escaping fluid 
    • System malfunction 
    • Risk of escaping fluid catching fire 

      → Do not kink, crush or twist the line

      → Avoid torsion and shearing

      → Fit the line carefully

  7. > VAS 6931 - Transmission and Engine Jack  must be lowered further. Do not pull brake hose too tightly while doing so. Carefully guide spring damper out of the wheel housing.
