Removing Air Spring Bellows

NOTE:
Air springs can become kinked/fall out
- Risk of damage to air springs
→ Deactivate the levelling system before raising the vehicle.
→ Check the bellows before lowering the vehicle.
Information
To prevent damage to the air springs, pay particular attention to the following points when handling air springs:
Air spring
- Never lower a vehicle with empty air springs.
- Do not pull the air spring apart.
- Do not bend the air spring out of shape (the air spring can be bent by < 20°).
- Do not lift the air spring at the electric connector.
- Carefully hold the air spring only at the top and bottom of the cover -1- or at the protective bellows -2- .
- Loosen rear upper control arm -1-

- 1.1 Remove threaded joint -2- .
- Disconnect plug connections on air spring bellows -1-

- 2.1 Release and disconnect electric connector -2-
.CAUTION: Escaping residual air
- Risk of eye injuries
→ Wear protective goggles.

- 2.2 Slowly unscrew Voss threaded joint for the air line -3-
. Do not unscrew Voss threaded joint fully until residual pressure has escaped.
Information
The cutting ring -1- and Voss threaded joint -2- must remain on the air line -3- .
Air line
- 2.3 Disconnect air line.
- 2.1 Release and disconnect electric connector -2-
.
- Unclip air spring bellows at the body mounting points.
Clip -1- must always be replaced following removal and may therefore be damaged irreparably during removal.
Upper clip on air spring bellows
- 3.1 Pull the air spring bellows on one side down slightly until the clip -1- is accessible.
- 3.2 Loosen clip connection -1- .
- Remove air spring bellows.

- 4.1 Press upper control arm up and anti-roll bar down to make enough space for removing the air spring bellows.
- 4.2 Carefully guide air spring bellows out between the upper control arm and anti-roll bar. -arrow- .
