Deflating And Inflating An Air Spring: Notes

Information 

This function is used for bleeding when working on an air spring or the lines of an air spring (without any loss of system air). The air from up to two air-spring struts can be stored in the pressure accumulator.

  1. PIWIS Tester  must be connected to the vehicle before starting the Tester. Switch on ignition.
  2. PIWIS Tester path:  Select the menu/function as follows.
    • Chassis control → 
    • Maintenance/repairs → 
    • Replacement work on the air spring system → 
    • Replacement of an air spring → 
    • Bleeding an air spring 

    Information 

    Preconditions for filling an air spring/the air spring system

    • Vehicle raised on a lifting platform, wheels freely suspended. 
    • All components of the system installed and connected. 
  3. Applies only to rear air spring:  Lift lower trailing arm before filling and align air spring in lower trailing arm (air spring must not be hanging freely over the lower trailing arm).
    1. 3.1 Before filling, use > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  to lift the lower trailing arm as far as required until the lower trailing arm is horizontal > Zero position

    2. 3.2 Align air spring with groove -2-  at the lug -3-  of the trailing arm.

    Information 

    Preconditions for filling an air spring/the air spring system

    • Vehicle raised on a lifting platform, wheels freely suspended. 
    • All components of the system installed and connected. 
  4. After completing the repair work, fill the air spring using the function in the PIWIS Tester  . The Tester path is as follows:
    • Chassis control → 
    • Maintenance/repairs → 
    • Replacement work on the air spring system → 
    • Replacement of an air spring → 
    • Filling an air spring 
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Use the PIWIS Tester  to start the Activation of height control  function:
    • Chassis control → 
    • Maintenance/repairs → 
    • Replacement work on the air spring system → 
    • Replacement of an air spring → 
    • Activation of height control
