Deflating And Inflating The Air Spring System

CAUTION: Escaping residual air 
  • Risk of eye injuries 

    → Wear protective goggles.

  1. Raise the vehicle.

    > 4X00IN LIFTING THE VEHICLE

  2. PIWIS Tester  must be connected to the vehicle before starting the Tester. Switch on ignition.
  3. PIWIS Tester path:  Select the menu/function as follows.
    • Chassis control → 
    • Maintenance/repairs → 
    • Replacement work on the air spring system → 
    • Bleeding and filling the entire air spring system → 
    • Bleeding air spring system 

    Information 

    Preconditions for filling an air spring/the air spring system

    • Vehicle raised on a lifting platform, wheels freely suspended. 
    • All components of the system installed and connected. 
  4. Applies only to rear air springs:  Lift lower trailing arm on both sides of the vehicle before filling and align air springs in lower trailing arm (air springs must not be hanging freely over the lower trailing arm).
    1. 4.1 Before filling, use > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  to lift the lower trailing arm on both sides of the vehicle as far as required until the lower trailing arm is horizontal > Zero position

    2. 4.2 Align air springs with groove -2-  at the lug -3-  of the trailing arm.

  5. After completing repair work, fill the air spring system using the function in the PIWIS Tester  . The Tester path is as follows:
    • Chassis control → 
    • Maintenance/repairs → 
    • Replacement work on the air spring system → 
    • Bleeding and filling the entire air spring system → 
    • Filling air springs 
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Use the PIWIS Tester  to start the Activation of height control  function:
    • Chassis control → 
    • Maintenance/repairs → 
    • Replacement work on the air spring system → 
    • Bleeding and filling the entire air spring system → 
    • Activation of height control
