Information

Recommendation for workshops replacing shock absorbers/spring dampers:

Information

If the coil spring is replaced: Always replace coil springs in pairs only!

  1. Clamp the spring strut in > VAS 6908 - Stationary Spring Compressor  in such a way that the mounting plates of the spring tensioning device are positioned on the spring strut supporting mount > Disassembling and assembling front spring strut
  2. Pre-tension the spring strut until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
  3. Unscrew nut using an angled ring wrench -1-  or > T10001 - shock absorber set  . Counter using multiple-tooth screw -2-  on the piston rod at the same time.

  4. Relieve tension on the spring strut (there must be no tension on the coil spring!).
  5. Remove all components from the piston rod.
  6. If you are replacing the lower spring plate, also replace the shock absorber cap.

    Information

Do not damage/scratch the shock absorber pipe and piston rod.

    1. 6.1 Carefully remove the shock absorber cap -1-  from the shock absorber using a plastic hammer.

      Information

Do not fit the stop cap at an angle!

    2. 6.2 Carefully re-fit the shock absorber cap -1-  on the shock absorber using a plastic hammer.

  7. Fit all components on the piston rod.
  8. Align the spring-strut mount with the shock absorber fork.
    1. 8.1 Left spring strut:  The bore -1-  in the shock absorber fork must be flush with the bore -2-  in the supporting mount (marking -L-  ).

  9. Pre-tension the spring strut until the tension on the piston rod is relieved.
  10. Tighten nut on the supporting mount > Tightening torque 53 Nm (39 ftlb.)   > Disassembling and assembling front spring strut.  Counter using multiple-tooth screw -2-  on the piston rod at the same time.
