Removing Trailing Arm

  1. Remove control arm spoiler -2-  .

    Control arm spoiler on trailing arm

    1. 1.1 Unscrew screw -1-  .
    2. 1.2 Pull off control arm spoiler lug at the shock absorber threaded joint.
  2. Loosen level sensor holder -2-  at the trailing arm.

    1. 2.1 Unscrew screw -1-  .
    WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly 
    • Risk of crushing 
    • Risk of damage to components 

      → Wear personal protective gear.

      → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

    Information 

    Always use an intermediate layer (e.g. hard rubber) when using the jack!

  3. Support wheel bearing housing using > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack  .
  4. Remove threaded joint -1-  securing trailing arm, shock absorber and connecting link.

  5. Carefully press up the rear exhaust pipe -1-  using > VAS 6931 - engine and gearbox jack-2-  and a wooden block -3-  in order to pull out the eccentric screw -4-  of the trailing arm after loosening it (Step 6).

    Information 

    • Loosen or fit nut on the trailing arm using the specified tools. 
  6. Loosen nut on the trailing arm using the tools shown.

    Arrangement of tools

    1 Cross handle, 3/8-inch
    2 Adapter, 3/8-inch to 1/2-inch
    3 Socket
  7. Remove threaded joints securing trailing arm to rear axle housing.

    Mounting for trailing arm on rear axle housing

    1. 7.1 Mark the position of the eccentric screw -1-  .
    2. 7.2 Remove eccentric threaded joint -1-  .

      Information 

      • Loosen or fit nut on the trailing arm using the specified tools. 
    3. 7.3 Remove threaded joint -2-  .
  8. Remove threaded joint securing trailing arm to wheel bearing housing -1-  .
