Installing The Cylinder Head Cover

Information 

The > T40331 - camshaft clamp  must be fitted before removal and installation.

Information 

Fitting and sealing components using liquid sealant. 

• Clean sealing faces to remove all traces of residual sealant. 
• Sealing faces must be free of grease and oil. 
• Clean sealing faces with primer Loctite 7515. 
• Use liquid sealant Loctite 5970-BM. 

1. Apply Loctite 5970-BM -1-  liquid sealant to cylinder head.
   1. 1.1 Install the cylinder head cover within five minutes of applying the liquid sealant.

   Information 

   If the fitting bore on the cylinder head cover is dirty/corroded or if tolerances are unfavourable, the > T40116 - locating pins  may be very difficult to insert.

   In this case, the fitting bore can be expanded carefully with a commercially available 8 mm H7 reamer  . Protect adjacent components from chips.

   Information 

   Before fitting the cylinder head cover, check that the rocker arms are aligned correctly.

2. Fit and align cylinder head cover -1-  on the cylinder head with > T40116 - locating pins-2-  .

3. Fit cylinder head cover.
   1. 3.1 Fit screws on the cylinder head cover uniformly and tighten according to the specified tightening sequence.

      > Initial tightening 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 

   2. 3.2 > T40116 - Locating pins  must now be pulled off.
   3. 3.3 Close off bearing tunnels with rubber caps. Exception: Left intake side with brake booster vacuum pump.
