Checking Valve Guide

→ Clean or replace dirty components.
Information
Given the different valve-stem dimensions, only use the intake valve in the intake guide and the outlet valve in the outlet guide.
Information
- If the wear limit is exceeded, repeat the measurement with new valves. If the wear limit is still exceeded, replace the cylinder head. The valve guides cannot be replaced.
- If the valve is replaced during repairs, use a new valve for the measurement.
- Insert valves into the relevant valve guides.
- 1.1 The end of the valve stem must be flush with the valve guide.
- Secure dial gauge > VAS 6079 - Dial gauge
on the cylinder head using > VW387 - Dial gage holder
.
Checking valve guides (similar to illustration)
- Measure valve tilt play.
- 3.1 Engage measuring tip tightly at the side of the valve disc, set dial gauge to "0" and tilt the valve to and fro.
- 3.2 Wear limit: 0.8 mm.
- If the wear limit is exceeded, repeat the measurement with new valves.
If the wear limit is still exceeded, replace the cylinder head.
