Checking Valve Guide

NOTE: Dirt and contamination 
  • Risk of damage to units or components 

    → Protect components from dirt and contamination.

    → Clean or replace dirty components.

Information 

Given the different valve-stem dimensions, only use the intake valve in the intake guide and the outlet valve in the outlet guide.

Information 

  1. Insert valves into the relevant valve guides.
    1. 1.1 The end of the valve stem must be flush with the valve guide.
  2. Secure dial gauge > VAS 6079 - Dial gauge  on the cylinder head using > VW387 - Dial gage holder  .

    Checking valve guides (similar to illustration)

  3. Measure valve tilt play.
    1. 3.1 Engage measuring tip tightly at the side of the valve disc, set dial gauge to "0" and tilt the valve to and fro.
    2. 3.2 Wear limit: 0.8 mm. 
  4. If the wear limit is exceeded, repeat the measurement with new valves.

    If the wear limit is still exceeded, replace the cylinder head.
