Installing Chain Housing Cover

Information 

Fitting and sealing components using liquid sealant. 

• Clean sealing faces to remove all traces of residual sealant. 
• Sealing faces must be free of grease and oil. 
• Clean sealing faces with primer Loctite 7515. 
• Use liquid sealant Loctite 5970-BM. 

Information 

Sealing surfaces must be clean and free of grease.

Never use mechanical tools to clean the sealing faces.

Information 

Sealant must not get into the threaded bores.

Information 

If a cylinder-head gasket is kinked or damaged, it must be replaced.

1. Check cylinder-head gasket for damage and replace it if necessary.
2. If the cylinder heads are fitted: Modify fitting sleeve.

   1. 2.1 Pull upper right fitting sleeve out of cylinder block.
   2. 2.2 Bevel fitting sleeve with a file as shown
      1. 2.2.1 Dimension -x-  =6.5 mm
      2. 2.2.2 Dimension -y-  =8 mm
   3. 2.3 Insert fitting sleeve in the cylinder block so the bevelled side is pointing upwards. (Bevelling the fitting sleeve makes it easier to fit the lower timing chain cover when the cylinder head is installed.)
3. Clean sealing faces thoroughly and apply sealant Loctite 5970-BM -1-  .

4. Install chain housing cover.
   1. 4.1 Carefully fit the chain housing cover on the crankcase.
   2. 4.2 Fit and tighten screws uniformly in the tightening sequence -1 to 19-  .

      > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)

5. Tap in new crankshaft sealing ring using pressure piece -1-  .

   > 135955 REPLACE CRANKSHAFT-FLYWHEEL SEALING RING
