Removing Pistons

Information 

• Connecting rod bolts and bearing shells must always be replaced. 
• Turn the crankshaft so that the crank pin of the pistons to be removed is positioned outwards. 

Information 

• Note the association between the connecting-rod big end and the connecting-rod bearing cap as the cracked connecting rods only fit in one position. 
• The retaining lugs of the connecting-rod bearing shells are always located on the same side in order to prevent the bearing shells from turning. 
• The connecting-rod bearing cap and the big end of the connecting-rod bearing have the same connecting-rod numbers. 

1. Remove piston and connecting rod.
   1. 1.1 For re-installation, mark the allocation of connecting rods to connecting-rod bearing caps and the cylinder.
   2. 1.2 If necessary, unscrew > T40069 - locking pin  and turn the crankshaft as required.
   3. 1.3 Unscrew screws on the connecting-rod bearing caps and remove connecting-rod bearing caps.
   4. 1.4 Push piston out of the crankcase using a wooden handle and remove it with your other hand.
   5. 1.5 Fit connecting-rod bearing cap hand-tight on the connecting rod and set it down on a clean surface after marking it according to the relevant cylinder.
