Converting Reconditioned Engine

Information 

• All components listed must be removed from the old engine and installed on the new engine. 
• Seals and O-rings must be replaced. 
• Aluminium screws and torque angle-tightened screws must be replaced. 
• All stoppers must be removed from the new engine. 

Information 

For tightening torques, tightening sequence and assembly overviews for the engine and transmission:

• Group 1: 

  > WM, 1X00IN TECHNICAL VALUES (V8 BITURBO)

• Group 2: 

  > WM, 2X00IN TECHNICAL VALUES (V8 BITURBO)

• Group 3: 

  > 3X00IN TECHNICAL VALUES

1. Convert bracket for torque support -3-  .
   1. 1.1 Loosen and unscrew screws -5-  .
   2. 1.2 Move bracket -3-  into installation position and fit and tighten screws -5-  .

      > Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

      Torque support - V8 biturbo

2. Convert engine carrier -2-  at the left and right.
   1. 2.1 Unscrew screws -1-  and remove torque support.
   2. 2.2 Move torque support into installation position and fit and tighten new screws.

      > Initial tightening 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) 

      > Final tightening + 90°

3. Convert coolant pipes -4-  .
   1. 3.1 Unscrew screw -3 and 5-  , loosen line clamps and pull off coolant pipes -4-  .
   2. 3.2 Connect coolant pipes -4-  and secure with a line clamp. Fit and tighten screw -3 and 5-  .
   3. 3.3 Convert stoppers -1-  on coolant pipes -2-  .

4. Convert moulded hose on throttle valve -1-  and coolant hose -2-  .
   1. 4.1 Convert moulded hose on throttle valve -1-  .
   2. 4.2 Convert coolant hose -2-  .

5. Convert heat shield for high-pressure pump -3-  for cylinder bank 1 and 2.
   1. 5.1 Unscrew screws -1 and 2-  and remove heat shield -3-  .
   2. 5.2 Fit heat shield -3-  on high-pressure pump and fit and tighten screws -1 and 2-  .

      Screw -1-  : > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 

      Screw -2-  : > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)

      Heat shield for high-pressure pump

6. Convert oil dipstick.
7. Convert all-wheel final drive.

   > 398819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FOUR-WHEEL FINAL DRIVE

8. Convert drive belt with belt tensioner and deflection roller.

   > 137819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE BELT (V8 BITURBO)

9. Convert generator with bracket.

   > 272219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING GENERATOR

10. Convert air-conditioning compressor with bracket and lines.

    > WM, 873419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR - Coupe or WM, 873419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ELECTRIC AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR - Wagon
