Installing Crankshaft

1. 1.1 Coat bearing shells -1 to 4-  with oil.
2. 1.2 Insert bearing shells -1 to 4-  on the relevant crankshaft bearing.

   Ensure that they are seated correctly.

3. 1.3 Insert upper thrust washers -5-  in the 3rd crankshaft bearing.

Information 

You will need a second mechanic to help you with this step.

1. 2.1 Insert crankshaft into the cylinder block.

Check the markings -1 and 2-  on the crankshaft and balance shaft bracing wheel.

1. 3.1 Coat bearing shells -5 to 8-  with oil.
2. 3.2 Insert bearing shells -5 to 8-  on the relevant bearing cover.

   Ensure that they are seated correctly.

3. 3.3 Insert lower thrust washers -9-  in the 3rd crankshaft bearing.
4. 3.4 Insert bearing covers -1 to 4-  .

   Check that the dowel sleeves are fitted correctly.

Bearing shells and crankshaft bearing covers

1. 4.1 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8-  to > Initial tightening 30 Nm (22.1 ftlb.)  .
2. 4.2 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers at the sides -9-  to > Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.8 ftlb.)  .
3. 4.3 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers -1 to 8-  to > Torque angle + 90°  .
4. 4.4 Tighten screws on crankshaft bearing covers at the sides -9-  to > Torque angle + 90°  .

Tightening sequence for crankshaft bearing covers

1. 5.1 Place chain for oil pump drive -1-  on the crankshaft sprocket -2-  .
2. 5.2 Position guide rail.
3. 5.3 Fit screws for guide rail -3 and 4-  and tighten to > Tightening torque 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)  .
