Preliminary Work

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 

    → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

    → Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

    → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

    → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.

    → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

WARNING: Caustic fluids 
  • Danger of chemical burns 

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Ensure that there is good ventilation.

    → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

    → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

Information 

The battery voltage must not fall below 12.5 volts  during the fuel pressure check.

  1. Connect battery charger.
  2. Attach or mount a warning sign > Example of a warning sign  in a clearly visible position on the vehicle.

    Information 

    • The position of the fuse for the fuel pump can vary in different models. 
    • Check the position of the fuse in the current media. 
    • PCSS => All media => Driver's Manuals (BAL) => Vehicle operating instructions => Section: Fuses => Fuel pump 
    • PCSS => All media => Wiring diagrams (SP) => Search term: Tank system 
  3. Relieve fuel pressure in the system.
    1. 3.1 Remove cover from fuse carrier in the engine compartment at the front right.
    2. 3.2 Pull out the fuse 35A -B11-  for the fuel pump.
    3. 3.3 Start the engine, wait until it cuts out and then re-insert the fuse 35A -B11-  .

  4. Have a clean canister  that is suitable for fuel and a measuring cup  ready.
  5. Connect > 9705 - test adapter-1-  .
    1. 5.1 Place a cloth underneath the connection point for the fuel low-pressure line -2-  .
    2. 5.2 Release plug-in coupling for the fuel low-pressure line and disconnect it. Collect emerging fuel.
    3. 5.3 Connect > 9705 - test adapter-1-  .
    4. 5.4 Position canister and secure it to prevent it from falling over.
    5. 5.5 Insert hose -3-  into the canister.
