Remove Fuel Tank

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials 
  • Danger of fire or explosion 

    → Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

    → Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

    → Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

    → Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.

    → Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.

WARNING: Toxic substances 
  • Danger of poisoning or suffocation 
  • Danger of burns to the eyes and skin 

    → Ventilate the work area well.

    → Never ingest or inhale.

    → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.

Information 

  1. Have suitable aids ready to collect emerging fuel and have suitable stoppers ready for closing off the fuel lines and the relevant connection openings.
  2. Remove cover -1-  in the floorpan close to the removed right rear seat.

  3. Disconnect fuel tank connections.
    1. 3.1 Release and disconnect plug-in couplings -1-  for the fuel lines.
    2. 3.2 Close off fuel lines and connection openings using suitable stoppers.
    3. 3.3 Release and disconnect electric plug connections -2-  .

  4. Remove protective cover -4-  .
    1. 4.1 Unscrew fastening screws -3, 2 and 1-  .
    2. 4.2 Remove protective cover -4-  .

  5. Release and disconnect plug-in coupling -1-  and collect emerging fuel.

  6. Unclip vent line -1-  from fuel filler pipe -arrow A-  and pull it out of the body -arrow B-  .

  7. Unclip hose -1-  (-arrow-  ).

  8. Remove cap -1-  .

  9. Remove fuel filler tube -5-  .
    1. 9.1 Unscrew fastening screws -3, 2 and 1-  .
    2. 9.2 Disconnect electric plug connection -4-  .
    3. 9.3 Disconnect fuel filler tube -5-  with holders from the body.

  10. Remove carbon canister line -2-  .
    1. 10.1 Release and disconnect quick connector -1-  .
    2. 10.2 Unclip carbon canister line -2-  from holders -3-  .

  11. Support the fuel tank -1-  using a suitable base -2-  and transmission jack -3-  .

  12. Remove fuel tank -4-  .
    1. 12.1 Unscrew fastening screws -1, 2 and 3-  .
    2. 12.2 Carefully lower the transmission jack and hold fuel tank -4-  with carbon canister line securely.
    3. 12.3 Remove the fuel tank -4-  and restraining straps -5-  from the base.
