Remove Engine
Information
- Open connections and lines must be closed off using suitable stoppers or caps.
Information
- When lowering the engine, make sure that no cables, hoses or lines are fitted between the engine and body.
- Get a second person to help you check this.

- Disconnect electric lines in the front left wheel housing.
- 1.1 Loosen connector housing -1- and disconnect plug connection.
- 1.2 Loosen B+ line -2- at the holder -3- and disconnect plug connection.
- 1.3 Unscrew nut -4- and disconnect ground cable -5- .
Electric lines in FL wheel housing
- Only for PDCC:
Disconnect wire harness on the PDCC anti-roll bar control unit.

- 2.1 Observe the specified sequence when loosening electric plug connections.
- Disconnect wire harness for steering gear -1-
.
- 3.1 Open the holder -2- .
- 3.2 Release and disconnect connectors -3- , -4- and -5- .

- Only for vehicles with particle filter:
Release and disconnect cable plug -1-
on exhaust temperature sensor at the left and right.

- Loosen universal joint on the steering gear.

- 5.1 Unscrew screw, pull universal joint off the pin on the steering gear and push it towards the steering column.
- Disconnect engine wire harness -1-
in the front left wheel housing.
- 6.1 Loosen tie-wraps -arrows- .
- 6.2 On the control unit holder -2- , loosen clip -arrows- .
- 6.3 Remove wiring harness holder -3- from wiring harness holder.
- 6.4 Loosen clips -arrows- from the air-conditioning line holder -5- .
- 6.5 Release and disconnect connectors -6- and -7- on the engine control unit.
- 6.6 Disconnect wire harness -1- and set it down on the engine.

- Disconnect engine wire harness -1-
in the front left wheel housing.
- 7.1 Release and disconnect connectors -2- and -3- on the engine control unit.
- 7.2 Loosen holder -arrows- on the air-conditioning line holder -4- .
- 7.3 Loosen holder -arrows- and loosen wire harness holder -5- at the top of the wing.
- 7.4 Loosen holder -arrows- for wire harness -1- on the control unit holder -6- .
- 7.5 Open the clip and disconnect vacuum line -7- from the wiring harness -1- .

- Disconnect air-conditioning line (high-pressure) -1-
in the engine compartment.
- 8.1 Unscrew screw -2- and disconnect air-conditioning line.
- 8.2 Unscrew screws -3- and loosen air-conditioning line holder at the wing.

- Disconnect air-conditioning line (low-pressure) -1-
in the engine compartment.
- 9.1 Unscrew screw -2- and disconnect air-conditioning line.

- Disconnect vacuum line -1-
on the valve cover.

WARNING: Hot fluid- Danger of scalding
→ Let the fluid cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear. - Pull off coolant line -1-
at the top of the radiator -2-
.
- 11.1 Loosen circlip -3- .
- 11.2 Collect emerging coolant.

- V8 biturbo:
Disconnect coolant line -1- at the coolant pump -2- .
- 12.1 Loosen clamp -3- and pull off coolant line -1- .
- 12.2 Collect emerging coolant.

- Release and disconnect electric connectors on the pressure sensor at the left and right on the throttle valve.
- Disconnect electric line for horn.

- 14.1 Release and disconnect electric connectors on the horn.
- 14.2 Loosen two clips on the front-axle carrier.
- Disconnect B+ line -1-
on the relay carrier -2-

- 15.1 Unscrew nut -3- and remove B+ line -1- .

- Disconnect coolant vent line -1-

- 16.1 Loosen clamp -2- and pull off vent line -1- .

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials- Danger of fire or explosion
→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
→ Contain leaked media using non-flammable absorbent material and put it in a container designed for this purpose for disposal in accordance with local requirements.
→ Secure collection containers/vessels to prevent them from tipping over.
- Disconnect fuel supply line -1-

- 17.1 Press release mechanism -2- in -direction of arrow- and pull off the fuel line -1- .
- 17.2 Cover fuel line.

- 18.1 Unscrew and remove screw -2- .

at the tank vent valve -2-

- 19.1 Loosen clamp -3- and pull off line -1- .

- 20.1 Release and disconnect electric connectors -1- and -2- .
- 20.2 Loosen holder for electric connectors on the strut -3- .
- 20.3 Release and disconnect electric connector -4- on the sensor -5- .

- Only for vehicles with particle filter:
Remove differential pressure sensors -2-
on struts to the side.
- 21.1 Unscrew and remove screws -1- .
- 21.2 Move sensors with lines aside and secure on the engine as required.

- Loosen torque support on the engine.

- 22.1 Unscrew screw on the engine.
- Loosen spring strut on the lower wishbone -1-
.
- 23.1 Loosen and unscrew screw and nut -2- .

- 24.1 Release and disconnect connector for ABS sensor -1- , sensor -2- and connector for wear indicator -3- .
- 24.2 Loosen wire harness from the holder -arrows- .
- 24.3 Unscrew screws -4- and disconnect brake line at the wheel carrier.

NOTE: Removal of brake calliper- Paint defects on brake calliper
→ Proceed with care when setting back the brake pads.
→ Protect the paintwork on the brake calliper from damage using a suitable cloth.
- Loosen front brake calliper at the wheel carrier.

- 25.1 Unscrew screws -Arrows- and remove brake calliper.
- 25.2 Secure the brake calliper with a tie-wrap.

- 28.1 Loosen clamps and pull off coolant lines.

with the help of another person.
- 34.1 Prepare unit support as required for the vehicle.

Adhesive tape markings on the workshop floor
- Before moving the unit elevating platform, mark the position of the wheels on the workshop floor with adhesive tape. This makes it easier to position the platform again for re-installation.
- > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform must be aligned under the engine and transmission. Then raise it as far as required until the units are supported.
- Screws on the front-axle carrier and transmission support must now be unscrewed.
- Fit wheel hub holder -1-
at both sides using assembly pins/wheel bolt -2-
on the wheel hub.

- Remove the engine.
- 38.1 Gradually lower the unit elevating platform with the engine/transmission unit.
- 38.2 Move unit elevating platform with engine out of the work area.
