Information
Adhesive tape markings on the workshop floor
- Before moving the unit elevating platform, mark the position of the wheels on the workshop floor with adhesive tape. This makes it easier to position the platform again for re-installation.
- Guide the engine in under the vehicle.
- 1.1 Move the engine under the vehicle using > VAS 6832 - Master Gear unit elevating platform .
- 1.2 Position the unit elevating platform at the positions marked during removal.
- 1.3 Guide the engine up into the engine compartment using the lifting equipment.
- Secure front-axle carrier.

- Front-axle carrier to body -4- : > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) Final tightening + 180°
- V6 only: - Front-axle carrier to body, rear -5- : > Tightening torque 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.)
- Anti-roll bar to body -6- : > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) Final tightening + 180°
Front-axle carrier
- Tighten screws for transmission support.
→ Initial tightening 25 Nm (19 ftlb.)
→ Torque angle 90°
- Secure the strut -1-
.
- 4.1 Tighten screws.
Strut and front-axle carrier -2- : > Initial tightening 70 Nm (51.6 ftlb.) Final tightening + 180°
Strut to body -3- : > Initial tightening 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.) Final tightening + 45°
Strut mounting
- 4.1 Tighten screws.
- Remove wheel hub holder -1-
at both sides on the wheel hub.

- Secure the spring strut to the lower trailing arm -1-
.
- 6.1 Tighten screws -2-
.
→ Initial tightening 90 Nm (67 ftlb.) Final tightening + 120°

- Secure wheel bearing housing to the upper trailing arm -1-
.
Hexagon nut, M12 -2- : > Tightening torque 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)

- Secure the front brake calliper to the wheel carrier.
- Secure wire harness for wheel carrier.
- Speed sensor to wheel bearing housing -1- : > Tightening torque 8 (6 ftlb.) Nm
- Cable holder to wheel bearing housing -2- : > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
- Brake line holder to wheel bearing housing -4- : > Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
Wire harness for wheel carrier at the front
- Secure universal joint on the steering gear.

- 10.1 Position universal joint and tighten new screw.
→ Initial tightening 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
→ Final tightening torque angle + 90°
- 10.1 Position universal joint and tighten new screw.
- Only for vehicles with particle filter:
Connect cable plug -1-
for exhaust temperature sensor at the left and right and check that it is fitted securely.

- Secure coolant lines for heater -1 and 2-

- Connect electric connector -1-
to the front-axle carrier -2-
at the front right.

- Connect vacuum line for brake booster -1-

- Only for vehicles with particle filter:
Secure differential pressure sensors -2-
on struts at the side.
- 15.1 Position differential pressure sensors and secure with screws -1-

→ Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)

- Secure electric lines to the diagonal brace at the right.

- Connect tank vent line -1-
to tank vent line -2-

to the right spring strut dome.
→ Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)

to the relay carrier -2-

- Secure torque support to the engine.

- 22.1 Tighten screws.
→ Initial tightening 50 Nm (36.9 ftlb.)
→ torque angle + 90°
- 22.1 Tighten screws.
- Connect electric connectors on the pressure sensor at the left and right to the throttle valve.
- Secure electric line for horn.

Information
- Replace O-rings on the cooling system.
- Clean plug connection and coolant hoses before assembly.
- Remove stoppers before fitting the coolant lines and hoses.
- Secure coolant line -1-
to the top of the radiator -2-

- 25.1 Fit circlip -3- .

- V8 biturbo:
Secure coolant line -1- to the coolant pump -2- .

- Connect vacuum line -1-
to the valve cover.

- Connect air-conditioning line (high-pressure) -1-
in the engine compartment.
→ Tightening torque 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)
- 28.1 Check O-rings and replace them if damaged.
- 28.2 Coat O-rings with refrigerant oil before fitting them.
Air-conditioning line in engine compartment
- Connect air-conditioning line (low-pressure) -1-
in the engine compartment.
→ Tightening torque 12 Nm (9 ftlb.)
- 29.1 Check O-rings and replace them if damaged.
- 29.2 Coat O-rings with refrigerant oil before fitting them.
Low-pressure air-conditioning line
- Secure engine wire harness -1-
in the front left wheel housing.

- 30.1 Replace damaged holders/tie-wraps -arrows- .
