Overview Of Thread Repair Kits

M14 -- Installation depth variable > VAS 271 011 - Thread repair kit, M14 x 1.5 
M12 -- Installation depth 5 mm > 9843 - Thread repair kit 
M10 -- Installation depth 5 mm > 9843/1 - Thread repair kit 
M10 -- Installation depth 10 mm > 9843/2 - Thread repairs 
M8 -- Installation depth 10 mm > 9843/3 - Thread repair kit 
  1. Loosen wire threaded insert (Helicoil) -1-  using a suitable screwdriver.

  2. Pull out wire threaded insert (Helicoil) -1-  (-Arrows-  ).

  3. Drill out thread.
    1. 3.1 Drill out the old thread fully using special 3-flute drill bit (contained in the set) -RHD vehicle -  .

    Minimal drilling depth = depth + length of threaded bush + approx. 3 mm

  4. Cut thread.

    Cutting thread

    1. 4.1 Cut thread up to dimension -Y-  using a cutting tool.

      Dimension -Y- = depth + length of threaded bush 

    2. 4.2 Clean the thread.
      1. 4.2.1 Blow drilling chips out of the thread using compressed air.
      2. 4.2.2 Rinse the thread with brake cleaner.
      3. 4.2.3 Blow-dry the thread with compressed air.
  5. Position threaded bush on screw-in tool.
    1. 5.1 Screw threaded bush -1-  onto screw-in tool -2-  .

    Check that the threaded bush -1-  is screwed fully onto the screw-in tool -2-  (-Arrows-  ).

  6. Only for screw-in tool with variable depth: Set depth.

    Adjusting the depth

    1. 6.1 Loosen screw -1-  .
    2. 6.2 Adjust the stop -2-  to the relevant depth -X -  .
    3. 6.3 Tighten screw -1-  .
  7. Screw in threaded bush.
    1. 7.1 Screw in threaded bush -1-  fully immediately using the screw-in tool -2-  .

  8. Unscrew screw-in tool -E-  from the threaded bush -LHD vehicle -  .

    Information 

    Do not move the vehicle until after the prescribed curing time specified for the threaded bush.

    Information 

    Once the end position is reached, the threaded bush must be loaded immediately in the screw direction and the thread lock must harden in this state.

    Two options are available for this:

    • Screw on component immediately.
    • By tightening the setting tool finger-tight. Do not unscrew the setting tool until the curing time has elapsed.
  9. Leave thread lock to harden for 6 hours. Assembly work may be carried out.
