Preliminary Work

  1. Remove the engine.

    > 100119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE

  2. Secure engine to assembly support.

    > WM, 100113 SECURING ENGINE ON ASSEMBLY SUPPORT (V8 BITURBO)

  3. Unclip engine wire harness at the relevant points and release and disconnect cable plugs.

    > WM, 975219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE WIRE HARNESS

  4. On the relevant side: 
    1. 4.1 Remove oil mist separator.

      > 105519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (LEFT) OIL MIST SEPARATOR (V8 BITURBO)

      > 105519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (RIGHT) OIL MIST SEPARATOR (V8 BITURBO)

    2. 4.2 Remove tank vent valve with lines.

      > 202319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TANK VENT VALVE

    3. 4.3 Remove ignition coils.

      > 282020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING IGNITION COILS (V8 BITURBO)

    4. 4.4 Remove upper heat insulation.
    5. 4.5 Remove fuel line (high-pressure pump to rail).

      > 249019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL LINE (LEFT HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP TO RAIL) (V8 BITURBO)

      > 249019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL LINE (RIGHT HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP TO RAIL) (V8 BITURBO)

    6. 4.6 Remove fuel collection pipe.

      > 243019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL COLLECTION PIPE (V8 TURBO)

    7. 4.7 Remove high-pressure pump and remove tappets -1-  using a magnet.

      > 246319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP (V8 BITURBO)

    8. 4.8 Remove solenoid hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment.

      > 155519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SOLENOID HYDRAULIC VALVE FOR VALVE LIFT ADJUSTMENT 

    9. 4.9 Remove fuel injectors.

      > WM, 244019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INJECTOR VALVE (INJECTOR)

    10. 4.10 Remove upper chain housing cover.

      > 153319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING UPPER CHAIN HOUSING COVER (V8 BITURBO) 

    11. 4.11 Remove camshaft actuator.

      > Refer to the appropriate Service Information for Removing and installing actuator for camshaft

      Tappets for high-pressure pump

  5. Only for cylinder bank 2:
    1. 5.1 Remove brake booster vacuum pump.

      > 477619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM PUMP

    2. 5.2 Remove intake hall sender.

      > Refer to the appropriate Service Information for Removing and installing hall sender (V8 biturbo)

    3. 5.3 Remove guide for oil dipstick.
