Replace Gateway Control Unit

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

If the Gateway  control unit is programmed, ensure a charging voltage of 14.0 - 14.2 V  at the Gateway control unit. Adjust the battery charger's voltage if necessary. When programming is complete, reset the battery charger's voltage.

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Place original remote control in emergency start tray.

  3. Select the vehicle type if necessary.
  4. Select the Gateway  control unit in the Overview.  Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Select Coding/programming  .
  6. Select Automatic coding. Press F12 to continue.
  7. The tester displays the message: Coding successful.
  8. Go back to the Overview. Press F12 to continue.
  9. In the Overview  , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu  .

    The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.

  10. Select Commission component protection  . Follow instructions and procedure. Press F12 to continue.
  11. Enter the PPN user name and password  . Press F12 to continue.
  12. Allow the tester to run the procedure.
  13. Check the chassis number. Enter the order number. Press F12 to continue.
  14. Allow the tester  to run the procedure. Press F12 to continue.
  15. The Commission component protection  message appears. Press F12 to continue.
  16. Once the teaching process is completed successfully, the status is displayed:

    e.g. Gateway: Component protection taught

    e.g. PCM 4.1: Component protection taught

    etc.

    Press F12 to continue.

  17. The message "Component protection commissioning was successful" appears. Press F12 to continue.
  18. Select Function enable  . Press F12 to continue.
  19. Enter the PPN user name and password  . Press F12 to continue.
  20. Select Display enabled functions  . Press F12 to continue.
  21. The enabled functions are displayed. Follow the instructions on the tester.
  22. Select Restore enabled function  . Press F12 to continue.
  23. Read the notes displayed on the tester. Press F12 to continue.
  24. The tester displays the message: Restore successful  . Press F12 to continue.
  25. Go back to the Overview. Press F12 to continue.
  26. Select the Gateway control unit in the Overview  . Press F12 to continue.
  27. Select Coding/programming  .
  28. Select Automatic coding  . Press F12 to continue.
  29. The tester displays the message: Coding successful.
  30. Select Maintenance/repairs  .
  31. Replace battery  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  32. Read and follow the instructions on the tester. Enter parameters for the vehicle battery. Press F8 to confirm. Press F12 to continue.
  33. Read out fault memory  Clear it if necessary.
  34. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
