Disassembling rear shock absorber

Information

Shock absorbers must always be replaced in pairs as soon as at least one of the following preconditions is met:

→ Mileage: 25, 000 km (15, 500 mls)
→ Age: 2 Jahre

2	Boot
3	Rubber stop
4	Spring-strut mount
5	Hexagon nut (conventional: M10/PASM: M12)
6	Protection cap (conventional only)
7	Grommet on spring-strut mount (PASM only)
8	Grommet on connector housing (PASM only)
9	Connector housing (PASM only)

Make space so that the spring-strut mount threaded joint is easily accessible.

1. 1.1. For vehicles without PASM: Pull protection cap -1- off the spring-strut mount.
2. 1.2. For vehicles with PASM: Expose PASM line.

  The release tools for unpinning the electric connector are contained in the following tool sets:
  - VAS 1978/17 contained in Release tool set WE 1736
  - VAS 1978/7A contained in Release tool set WE 1623
  1. 1.2.1. Unpin connector housing -2-. Use the tools VAS 1978/7A (primary release tool) and VAS 1978/17 (secondary release tool) to do this.
  2. 1.2.2. Pull grommets -3 and 4- down off the PASM line.
Screw off nut on piston rod and counter at the hexagon on the piston rod at the same time. Use socket-wrench insert 3353 -1- on vehicles with PASM.

On vehicles without PASM, the nut on the piston rod can also be loosened using shock absorber set T10001 . Screwing off nut on piston rod (without PASM)

Remove all parts (spring-strut mount, rubber stop and boot) from the shock absorber.
Pull rubber stop out of the spring-strut mount and boot.
