Assembling rear shock absorber

Information 

A soapy solution can be used for fitting the rubber stop in the boot.

  1. Fit rubber stop into boot and spring-strut mount.
  2. Fit all parts (spring-strut mount, rubber stop and boot) on the shock absorber.

    Information 

    The upper spring-strut mount must be at an angle -x-  of → Angle: 90°+/-10°  with respect to the lower spring-strut mount.

  3. Tighten nut on piston rod and counter at the hexagon on the piston rod at the same time. Use socket-wrench insert 3353 -1-  on vehicles with PASM.

    On vehicles without PASM, the nut on the piston rod can also be tightened using shock absorber set T10001  . → Screwing off nut on piston rod (without PASM) 

    1. Ratchet (commercially available)
    2. T10001/9 
    3. T10001/11 
    4. T10001/1 

    Shock absorber without PASM: Tightening torque 35 Nm (26 ft. lb.) 

    Shock absorber with PASM: Tightening torque 35 Nm (26 ft. lb.)

  4. For vehicles without PASM:  Fit protection cap on spring-strut mount.

    Information 

    When fitting the connector housing on the PASM line, always pay particular attention to the following:

    • Green line must be inserted into slot (see inscription on connector housing)  .
    • Brown line must be inserted into slot (see inscription on connector housing)  .
    • After fitting the connector, the secondary lock must be locked (use tool VAS 1978/17)  .
  5. For vehicles with PASM:  Fit grommets on PASM line and fit connector housing.
