Preliminary work for cylinders 1-3

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Remove air cleaner housing. → 242519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR CLEANER HOUSING
  3. Remove the torque support. → 103719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE TORQUE SUPPORT
  4. Remove the secondary-air pump. → 266519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE SECONDARY-AIR PUMP
  5. Remove the intake-air distributor. → 244619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE INTAKE-AIR DISTRIBUTOR
  6. 2 Detach the holder for the ATF lines on the cylinder head cover.

    WARNING: Toxic substances
    • Danger of poisoning or suffocation
    • Danger of burns to the eyes and skin

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Ventilate the work area well.

    → Never ingest or inhale.

    → Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.

    → Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.

  7. Open the ATF lines -1 and 2-  at the connection point and press it aside. Collect dripping quantities!

  8. Disconnect the vent lines.
    1. 8.1. Loosen the vent line on the cylinder head cover -1-  .
    2. 8.2. Pull the vent line off the throttle housing -2-  .
    3. 8.3. Remove the vent line clamp on the cylinder head cover holder at the front.

  9. Expose the vent line.
    1. 9.1. Remove the clip of the vent lines on the cylinder head cover at the front.
    2. 9.2. Place the vent line to one side.
  10. Remove the holder for fuel and tank vent line -1-  on the cylinder head cover.

  11. Remove the actuators of the camshaft controllers. → 153719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE SOLENOID/HYDRAULIC VALVE (ACTUATORS) FOR THE CAMSHAFT CONTROLLER 
  12. Remove the wiring harness clip of the actuators for the camshaft controller from the cylinder head cover.

  13. Remove the ignition coils. → 282020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE IGNITION COILS
    1. 13.1. Remove the retaining clip -1-  from the ignition coil wiring harness on the cylinder head cover.
    2. 13.2. Remove the oxygen sensor cable from the support for the ignition coil wiring harness.

  14. Release the retaining clip of the cable for the hall sender on the outlet side of the cylinder head cover.

  15. Remove the high-pressure pump. → 246319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP
  16. Pull the wiring harness bracket from the high-pressure line.
  17. Remove the high-pressure line from the high-pressure pump to rail (cylinder 1-3). → 249019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE FUEL LINE (HIGH-PRESSURE)
  18. Disconnect the vacuum hose for the brake booster from the vacuum pump.

  19. Wedge the wiring harness behind the connection piece of the vacuum pump.
  20. For vehicles with engine-independent heating: Loosen the holder for the coolant pipes on the dome bearing.
