Preliminary work

  1. Secure engine to assembly support. → 1001IN SECURING ENGINE ON ASSEMBLY SUPPORT (MOUNTING BRACKET)
  2. Remove turbocharger. → 213019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TURBOCHARGER
  3. Remove upper part of oil pan. → 175019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL GUIDE HOUSING
  4. Remove intake-air distributor. → 244619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE-AIR DISTRIBUTOR
  5. Remove camshafts. → 150520 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CAMSHAFTS 
  6. Remove chain housing cover. → 153319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CHAIN HOUSING COVER 
  7. Remove timing chain. → 153519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TIMING CHAIN 
  8. Remove deflector rail and tensioning rail on the cylinder head. → 154719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING GUIDE AND TENSIONING RAILS 
  9. Disconnect fuel connection line at the fuel collection pipe. → 243019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL DISTRIBUTOR PIPE
  10. Disconnect electric connector -1-  on the high-pressure sensor.

  11. Disconnect electric plug connections.
    1. 11.1. Outlet hall sender -1-  and intake hall sender -4- 
    2. 11.2. Hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment -2- 
    3. 11.3. ONLY for bank 1, cylinders 1-3: Coolant temperature sensor -3-

    Information 

    • Open connections and lines must be closed off using suitable stoppers or caps.
  12. Disconnect coolant vent line -1-  on the relevant cylinder head.
    1. 12.1. Unscrew screw -2-  and pull off line.

    Information 

    • Open connections and lines must be closed off using suitable stoppers or caps.
  13. Remove crankcase vent line.
    1. 13.1. Remove screws -2, 3 -  and -5-  .
    2. 13.2. Remove crankcase vent line.

  14. Loosen secondary air valve and disconnect secondary air line at the cylinder head.
    1. 14.1. Release secondary air line -5-  and pull it off the secondary air valve -1-  .
    2. 14.2. Unscrew screws -8-  and remove secondary air valve with secondary air line.
    3. 14.3. Remove and replace seal -9-  on the cylinder head.
