Installing chain housing cover: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Porsche Macan and 2015 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Information

Information

Carefully apply Loctite 5900 sealant on the timing chain housing in such a way that sealant cannot get into the screw holes when you fit the chain housing cover. Loctite 5900 can increase the friction coefficient of the aluminum screw. The sealant must not overflow.

Information

If cold or excessively low-tempered components are sealed to each other by applying sealant, leaks can occur because of condensed water forming or components distorting. Components must have a uniform temperature of at least 17°C.

  1. Clean and degrease the sealing faces of the engine and chain housing cover.
    1. 1.1. Also clean sealing faces using Loctite 7515.

    1. Applying sealant on lower chain housing cover
    2. Applying sealant on connection point between chain housing cover and cylinder head, top
    3. Length of sealant: 20 mm
  4. When fitting the chain housing cover, press the tensioning rail away from the camshaft controller (cylinder 1) towards the timing chain using a screwdriver (second worker required).
  5. Fit chain housing cover straight on without letting it slip out of place.
  6. Screw down all fastening screws by hand. At this stage, the screw heads should not be all the way down.
    1. 6.1. Replace all screws.

    Information

    • The chain housing cover must be aligned using a dial gauge or steel gauge.
    • The chain housing cover must not project over the lower part of the crankcase. Even the slightest projection must be corrected.
    • It must not be less than (-dimension A-  ) 1/10 mm (-dimension A < 1/10 mm-  ).
  7. Press the chain housing cover up slightly and tighten the four fastening screws (approx. 1 - 2 Nm/0.5 - 1.5 ft lb.) so that the chain housing cover is slightly jammed. Then align the chain housing cover.
  8. Align chain housing cover within 5 minutes and screw it on  .
