Removing power-steering gear

Information
- Secure steering wheel with wheels in straight-ahead position (engage steering column lock or clamp steering wheel in center position with steering-wheel holder). If this is not done, the airbag contact unit will have to be put in center position after installation of the steering gear .
- Detach universal joint -1- .
- Detach tie-rod ball from tie rod.
- Unscrew fastening nut -1-
on the joint pin for the tie-rod ball -2-
until it is flush with the thread of the joint pin.
- Loosen tie-rod ball from the wheel bearing housing. Make sure not to damage the speed sensor.
- 4.1. Position Ball-joint extractor T40010A over the tie-rod ball and fit on the fastening nut.
- 4.2. Press tie-rod ball off the wheel bearing housing using ball joint puller T40010
.
Screw in hexagon on the ball joint puller T40010 until the tie-rod ball becomes detached from the wheel bearing housing.
Make sure that the lever arms of the ball joint puller are parallel to each other when the greatest amount of force is applied. Re-adjust if necessary.

- Loosen fastening nut -1-
from the joint pin on the tie-rod ball -2-

- Lower the anti-roll bar.
- Release and disconnect connectors for vehicle signals -1-
and power supply -2-
.
- Remove steering gear.WARNING: Danger of objects or loads falling down
- Risk of squashing or crushing
→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
