Removing tie rod

Information

Mark the position of the tie-rod ball on the thread before unscrewing it from the tie rod.

Count the number of turns when unscrewing it (turns of tie-rod ball).

This avoids the need to perform an approximate adjustment of the steering trapeze when reassembling.

This is not a substitute for the suspension alignment.

After removing the tie rod, the steering track must be adjusted.

Loosen the outer clamp on the bellows using Spring Band Clamp Pliers WE 1646 .

Loosen the inner clamp -1- on the bellows using suitable pliers.

Unscrew octagon -1- on the ball joint of the tie rod -2- from the rack-and-pinion using V.A.G 1923 open-jawed wrench insert Nr.95-2 .

Remove tie rod. If the tie rod is replaced, the marking for the old tie rod on the wheel side must be copied to the new tie rod.
