Removing bellows for steering-gear housing (joint boot)

Information 

• Mark the position of the tie-rod ball on the thread before unscrewing it  .
• Count the number of turns when unscrewing the tie-rod ball  .
• It will then be possible to install the tie-rod ball back in the same position and retain the basic setting of the steering trapeze  .
• However, this does not replace the suspension alignment  .

Information 

• Make sure that no dirt gets into the power-steering gear and bellows when removing and installing the bellows  .

1. Loosen the outer clamp on the bellows using Spring Band Clamp Pliers WE 1646  .

2. Loosen the inner clamp -1-  on the bellows using suitable pliers.

3. Unscrew lock nut from tie rod.
4. Pull bellows -3-  together with clamp -1-  off the tie rod -2-  .
