Bleeding the brake system
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Porsche Macan and 2015 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Information
- Observe brake fluid quality. Use only new DOT 4 brake fluid .
- The brake fluid change interval is two years, using Super DOT 4 brake fluid .
- This brake fluid is available under the following part numbers: Container quantity: 1 liter = 000.043.203.66. 30 liters = 000.043.203.67 .
- Open the brake fluid reservoir.
- Connect bleeding device to the reservoir.
- Switch on the bleeding device. Bleeding pressure is approx. 2.0 bar.
- A second fitter is required. Continuously pump the brake pedal slowly during the bleeding process.
- 4.1. Continue changing the brake fluid at the brake callipers. Observe the sequence specified on the Porsche System Tester: front left/front right/rear right/rear left.
- Open each bleeder valve until clear, bubble-free brake fluid emerges.
- Use a transparent hose and a collecting bottle to check the escaping brake fluid for cleanliness, absence of air bubbles and to determine the amount of brake fluid used.
- 6.1. Only when replacing the hydraulic unit:
Bleed the secondary circuit using the Porsche System Tester. To do this, select >>PSM>>Maintenance/repairs>>Bleeding hydraulic unit<< in the control unit overview.
- 6.1. Only when replacing the hydraulic unit:
- Then bleed the right-hand side of the vehicle manually again: front right/rear right.
- Tighten the bleeder valves to the specified tightening torque and remove the bleeder hoses.
Bleeder screw on front brake calliper: Tightening torque 14 Nm (10.5 ft. lb.)
Bleeder screw on rear brake calliper: Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)
- Switch off the bleeding device and remove the adapter at the reservoir. The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be between the MIN and MAX markings once the vehicle has been filled and bled. Correct the brake fluid level if necessary.
- Generate vacuum in the brake booster by starting the engine. Check brake-pedal travel and pedal feel.
