Removing fuel tank

→ Ventilate the work area well.

→ Never ingest or inhale.

→ Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Do not smoke, eat or drink in the work area.

→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

→ Never leave the carbon canister hanging freely on the lines.

→ A second person must hold the carbon canister during removal.

Information 

• Escaping fuel must be soaked up using suitable binding material  .
• The fuel system must be depressurized before starting work on it  .
• Only work on the fuel system in well-ventilated rooms  .
• Any seals that were removed must always be replaced  .
• Never use sealant containing silicone or silicone spray when the injection system is open. Traces of silicone drawn in by the engine are not combusted and damage the oxygen sensors  .

1. Fold protective mat -1-  aside and open the cover -2-  .

2. Loosen connections on the fuel pressure regulator.
   1. 2.1. Release and disconnect electric lines -5, 6-  .
   2. 2.2. Release and pull off fuel line -7-  .
   3. 2.3. If auxiliary heater is installed:  Release and disconnect supply line for auxiliary heater -4-  .
   4. 2.4. Soak up emerging fuel with a cloth.

3. Loosen tank filler neck.
   1. 3.1. Screw off the cap.
   2. 3.2. Unscrew screws -1-  on the holder in the wheel housing.
   3. 3.3. Pull tank filler neck -2-  out of the rubber sleeve -3-  .

4. Support the fuel tank using Master Gear unit elevating platform WE 1206  or Transmission and Engine Jack WE 1599  .
5. Loosen holder and restraining straps on the fuel tank.
   1. 5.1. Unscrew screws -1-  on the stone guard -2-  .
   2. 5.2. Unscrew screws -3-  on the tank restraining straps -4-  .
   3. 5.3. Lower the fuel tank -5-  slightly.

6. Release and disconnect supply line -1-  on the underbody at the right.
   1. 6.1. If auxiliary heater is installed: Loosen auxiliary heater pump -2-  from the holder -3-  and disconnect line -4-  .

7. Disconnect lines for carbon canister.
   1. 7.1. Loosen line for carbon canister -1-  at the fuel tank -2-  and underbody from the holder.
   2. 7.2. Release and pull off line -1-  at the carbon canister -3-  .

8. Slowly lower the fuel tank.
