Installing rear lid release

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Porsche Macan and 2015 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Incorrect installation of release switch.
  • Damage to rear window trim.

→ Carefully press in release switch without using excessive force.

Information 

Steps 1 to 1.7  described below must only be carried out if a new contact plate  with round connector  is installed.

  1. Replace plug connection for rear lid release on the vehicle side  .
    1. 1.1. Remove fabric tape around the main wire harness as shown.

      Information 

      • Select a place for the joint where there is enough space to join the individual lines  .
      • Mark the electric lines if necessary  .
      • If the wire harness is damaged to such an extent that it cannot be repaired using a crimp connector, the individual lines of the connector must be replaced.     2. 1.2. Cut off connector lines -1-  in the marked area individually  using stripping pliers VAS 1978/3 -2-  .

    3. 1.3. Strip the lines you have just cut (yellow/blue and brown) -1-  using the stripping pliers VAS 1978/3 -2-  .

      The green/white line in the wire harness is not used and must then be insulated using fabric tape.

    4. 1.4. Insert the stripped lines -1-  into the corresponding crimp connector -2-  on the repair connector, Part No. 95B.998.030  .

      Line assignment: 

      Brown line  of the connector to brown/white  line of the main wire harness.

      Yellow/blue line  of the connector to yellow/blue  line of the main wire harness.

    5. 1.5. Crimp on both lines using crimping pliers VAS 1978/1-1  .

      1. 1.5.1. Insert crimping pliers insert -1-  according to the color marking -3-  on the crimp connector -2-  into the crimping pliers VAS 1978/1-1  .
      2. 1.5.2. Crimp on the crimp connector -2-  using crimping pliers VAS 1978/1-1  .
    6. 1.6. Seal shrink-fit hose on the crimp connection -1-  using hot-air blower VAS 1978/14A -2-  .

    7. 1.7. Wrap fabric tape around the main wire harness and connector lines.

  2. Install rear lid release  .

    1. 2.1. Coat the retainer plate -2-  with soapy water before installing the new release switch -1-  .
    2. 2.2. Position the release switch -1-  on the retainer plate -2-  as shown and check that the sealing grommet -3-  is fitted correctly in the opening for the rear window all the way around.
    3. 2.3. Guide in release switch -1-  at the bottom of the retainer plate -2-  first - A-  and then engage it at the top -B-  .
  3. Connect electric plug connection.

  4. Perform function test on rear lid release.
