Adjusting front-axle toe

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Porsche Macan and 2015 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clamp steering wheel in center position using steering-wheel holder -A-  . Use only steering-wheel holders that do not project into the area of the airbag unit -B-  . If necessary, shorten the guide rod on the steering-wheel holder at the top.

    For fast and reliable steering wheel alignment in center position, use a steering wheel alignment gauge WE 1343  (with integrated angle measurement box).

  2. If fitted: Remove air-guide element from tie rod on both sides of the vehicle (air-guide element must be replaced).

    1. 2.1. Cut through the lower arms of the clamp -1-  at the marked positions using a suitable tool.
    2. 2.2. Remove air-guide element -2-  .
  3. Measure dimension -a-  between the tie-rod ball -1-  and tie rod -2-  at the left and right and take note of the value. Dimension -a-  should be the same before and after alignment at the left and right (maximum difference between left and right < 2.5 mm).

  4. Loosen lock nut -B-  . Counter at the tie-rod ball -c-  while doing this.

    Information 

    Make sure that the bellows are not twisted after turning the tie rods!

  5. Adjust the toe at the left and right wheel using hexagon -A-  .

  6. Tighten lock nut -B-  and check the toe value again. Tightening torque 90 Nm (67 ft. lb.) 
  7. If fitted: Fit new air-guide element on tie rod on both sides of the vehicle.

  1. 7.1. Push air-guide element -2-  onto the tie-rod ball from the front.

    Check the position of the lock nut -3-  in the cut-out on the air-guide element -2-  .

  2. 7.2. Secure the air-guide element with a new clamp.

    Check that the clamp locks correctly.

    Check that the clamp has locked correctly through the test lugs -1-  in the air-guide element -2-  .
