Writing values

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

If the PCM unit is to be replaced with a new unit, the navigation data must be installed using a Software Update navigation CD/DVD  .

  1. Switch off ignition and replace control unit. → 911019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PCM DISPLAY AND OPERATOR CONTROL UNIT .
  2. Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and start the PIWIS Tester. Switch on ignition.
  3. Select the vehicle type and start the diagnostic application.
  4. In the overview  , press [F7] to switch to the Additional menu  .
  5. Deactivate Transport mode.
    1. 5.1. Vehicle handover  must be selected.
    2. 5.2. Perform vehicle handover in accordance with menu guidance.
    3. 5.3. Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
  6. Go back to the overview  .
  7. Select the required control unit PCM 3.1  in the overview  .
  8. Extended identifications  must now be selected.
  9. Select the Vehicle identification number  field.
  10. Enter the vehicle identification number  and press [F8] to write data.
  11. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  12. Select Automatic coding  in the Coding/adaptation  menu and press [F12].
  13. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  14. Select Function activation  in the Maintenance/repairs  menu and press [F12].
    1. 14.1. The PIWIS Tester displays the enabling codes.
    2. 14.2. Using the vehicle-specific codes from the PIWIS information system, click on the menus, enter the relevant enabling code  and press [F8] to start coding.
  15. Exit the PCM 3.1  control unit. PCM 3.1 goes out of Service  mode.
  16. Insert the Software Update navigation CD/DVD  into the PCM3.1 unit (see operating instructions).
  17. Confirm the messages on the PCM unit, start the update  according to instructions and leave it running.
  18. PCM then displays the message Update to version completed successfully  . Confirm this info on the touchscreen.
  19. Check the audio, telephone, TV and navigation functions, depending on vehicle equipment.

    Only for equipment variant XM radio 

  20. Drive the vehicle to a free area outside. Leave the engine switched on.
  21. Adjust the radio to Station preview.
  22. Contact SiriusXM OEM Call Centre at 1-800-852-9696. Press button 2 for "Other enquiries" in the selection menu.
  23. Give the customer advisor the radio ID/ESN of both the original and new PCM systems.
  24. Once you have successfully registered the system, check that all PCM functions are working.

    All vehicles 

  25. Read out the fault memory on the PCM 3.1  system.
