Coding rear-end electronics control unit

Information 

Cross installation of the rear-end electronics control unit on vehicles without VTS and vehicles with VTS is not permitted. This would result in the entry of a fault code that cannot be deleted in the rear-end electronics control unit and the control unit would have to be replaced.

Information 

All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, front-end electronics (front BCM), rear-end electronics (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).

Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this procedure will no longer be recognized by the vehicle.

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the vehicle type if required.
  3. Select the Rear-end electronics  control unit in the overview  . Press [F12] to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press [F11] to continue.
  4. Coding/programming  must be selected.
  5. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press [F12] to continue.
  6. The Tester displays the message: Coding successful.
  7. Go back to the overview. Press [F12] to continue.
  8. In the overview  , press [F7] to switch to the Additional menu  .
  9. Engine immobiliser start-up  must be selected. Press [F12] to continue.
  10. Enter the PPN user name and password  . Press [F12] to continue.
  11. The Tester displays the message: Login successful  . Press [F12] to continue.
  12. Check the chassis number. Enter the order number. Press [F12] to continue.
  13. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Press [F12] to continue.
  14. The Tester displays the message: Engine immobiliser start-up successful  . Press [F12] to continue.
  15. Go back to the overview. Press [F12] to continue.
  16. Select the Rear-end electronics  control unit in the overview  . Press [F12] to continue.
  17. Drive links/checks  must be selected.
  18. Teach roof console  must be selected. Press [F12] to continue.
  19. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Execute according to menu guidance.

    If there is no sunroof/panoramic roof, continue with Step  23.

  20. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  21. Standardise sliding roof/panoramic roof  must be selected and performed.
  22. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Execute according to menu guidance.
  23. Read out the fault memory  . Clear it if necessary.
  24. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  25. Function test: Lock, open and start the vehicle using all remote controls.
