Information on the test steps

Checking involves the following tasks:

Determining current actual values (wear condition) using tester VAS 6813 (at the three measurement markings).
Aligning/positioning tester VAS 6813 -1- using a laser beam -2- at the measurement marking.

Visual inspection of the brake disc friction surfaces for surface changes .
Flaking/fractures as a result of unusual usage conditions (e.g. stone chip damage). Max. 1.0 cm² permitted!

Surface roughness.

Surface roughness (Rk), max. 80 μm permitted since this affects braking comfort (noises), braking behavior/pedal pressure and brake pad service life.

- Brake disc minimum thickness no longer needs to be checked (measurement no longer shown on brake disc hub) .
Information
- Irrespective of wear, a brake disc may need to be changed due to edge damage on the brake disc friction surfaces .
- In this case, only one brake disc can be replaced if the measured value (determined using test equipment VAS 6813) and the friction surface of the other PCCB brake disc are still perfectly OK .
Check brake discs for edge damage -see figure below- (damage due to improper use).
- Max. permissible width/depth = 2 mm (0.08 inches)
- Max. permitted length = 10 mm (0.39 inches)
- Max. 3 damaged edge areas permissible
