Installing front wheel bearing

Information 

• The wheel bearing has a magnetized multipole seal, which acts as a pulse sender for the wheel speed sensor  .
  • The multiple-pole seal -1- must always face upwards when the wheel bearing is set down (this does not apply when pressing the wheel hub into the wheel bearing). Do not damage the multipole seal and do not come into contact with magnetic objects (e.g. magnetized screwdriver, magnet)  .

1. Press wheel hub into the wheel bearing.

   1	Press tool
   2	Pressure plate VW 402
   3	Wheel hub
   4	Wheel bearing
   5	Pressure plate VW 401

   1. 1.1. Fit special tools as shown in → Pressing wheel hub into wheel bearing  .
   2. 1.2. Press wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
2. Insert wheel bearing unit into the wheel bearing housing.
3. Tighten fastening screws on the wheel bearing unit.
   1. 3.1. Always observe the specified tightening sequence -1 - 4-  !

      Observe specified tightening torques:

      Wheel bearing unit to wheel bearing housing: Initial tightening 80 Nm (59 ft. lb.) Final tightening +90°
