Preliminary work

  1. Support the engine on the body. → 1001IN SUPPORTING ENGINE ON THE BODY (ENGINE SAFETY DEVICE) 
  2. Remove front wheel housing liner. → 505619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER
  3. Loosen intake manifold.
  4. Remove strut -2-  at the lower lock carrier on both sides.
    1. 4.1. Unscrew fastening nut -3-  .
    2. 4.2. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  .
    3. 4.3. Remove strut -2-  on both sides.

  5. Disconnect electric plug connection -1-  , unclip line and move it aside.

  6. Loosen spring strut at the wishbone on both sides.
    1. 6.1. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  and loosen anti-roll bar at the spring strut.
    2. 6.2. Unscrew fastening nut -3-  and remove fastening screw -2-  .

  7. Unscrew fastening screws -1 and 2-  and remove heat shields at the left and right.

  8. Unscrew fastening screw and pull universal joint off the steering gear.

  9. Loosen fastening screws on the front-axle carrier at both sides.
    1. 9.1. Before loosening the fastening screws, mark the installation position of the front-axle carrier with a felt-tip pen.
    2. 9.2. Loosen fastening screws -1, 2 and 3-  on both sides.

      Do not unscrew fastening screws fully!

  10. Raise the elevating platform and guide front locating pins -1-  into the jacking points provided for this purpose on the body.

    Locating pins are only for guiding the assembly fixture and must not be fitted  .

    Do not use locating pin at the front left in direction of travel (due to accessibility of jacking point).

  11. Unscrew fastening screws -1, 2 and 3-  on both sides.

  12. Lower the front-axle carrier by approx. 130 mm.
