Removing engine

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Porsche Macan and 2015 Porsche Macan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Hot fluid
  • Danger of scalding

→ Let the fluid cool down.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

WARNING: Highly inflammable or explosive materials
  • Danger of fire or explosion

→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.

→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.

→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

WARNING: Caustic fluids
  • Danger of chemical burns

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.

→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

WARNING: Working with ATF
  • Possible danger of injury or damage (e.g. swollen hoses, skin irritation, danger of slipping, etc.)

→ Before lines are opened, place a cloth underneath them!

→ Components that come into contact with ATF must be cleaned IMMEDIATELY with water!

→ Take appropriate protective measures (protective clothing, safety goggles, oil binding material)

→ Collect emerging ATF!

CAUTION: Hot components
  • Risk of burns

→ Let hot components cool down.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

NOTE: Aggressive fluids
  • Risk of damage to components and surfaces

→ Do not spill fluids.

→ In the event of contact, wash the component or surface with water.

→ Replace components that are already damaged.

NOTE: Opened refrigerant system for repairs.
  • Moisture penetrated into the refrigerant system.
  • Risk of contaminating the refrigerant circuit.
  • Risk of saturation and irreparable damage to desiccator.
  • Irreparable damage to the desiccator can damage the compressor and evaporator.

→ The desiccator must be replaced if the air humidity is high and if the refrigerant circuit is left open for a long time.

  1. Unscrew fastening screws -1, 2 and 4-  and remove cover -3-  on the fuse box.

  2. Unscrew fastening nut -1-  , disconnect ground strap -2-  and set it aside.

  3. Remove cover for B+ line -1-  .

  4. Unscrew fastening nut -1-  and move line -4-  aside.

  5. Release electric plug connections -A-  in direction of arrow and remove DME control unit in -direction of arrow B-  .

  6. Loosen the fuse box.
    1. 6.1. Disconnect electric plug connections -2-  and -4-  .
    2. 6.2. Unscrew fastening nut -3-  .
    3. 6.3. Press locking lugs and remove the fuse box by pulling it upwards.

  7. Remove cable bushing -1-  .
    1. 7.1. Pull off rubber seal on the firewall.
    2. 7.2. Carefully unclip clips -arrow A-  .
    3. 7.3. Remove cable bushing -1-  in -direction of arrow B-  .

  8. Disconnect engine wire harness -1 -  from the guide.

  9. Expose engine wire harness -6-  .
    1. 9.1. Disconnect electric plug connection -1-  .
    2. 9.2. Unclip electric line -4-  from the cross panel -2-  (-3-  ) and set it aside.
    3. 9.3. Guide engine wire harness -6-  with relay and fuse box under the B+ line -5-  and place it on the engine.

    WARNING: Damaged fuel lines
    • Escaping fuel in the engine compartment
    • Fire in the engine compartment

    → Do not loosen hoses using sharp-edged tools.

    → Replace damaged fuel lines.

  10. Disconnect fuel lines.
    1. 10.1. Loosen clamp -1-  and pull off fuel supply line -2-  .
    2. 10.2. Release the tank vent line -3-  and pull it off.
    3. 10.3. Open holder -4-  and expose lines.
    4. 10.4. The fuel supply line must always be replaced after pulling off the corrugated connection piece.

  11. Remove fuel supply line -1-  and tank vent line -2-  .
    1. 11.1. Loosen clamps and pull off lines -1 & 2-  .
    2. 11.2. Collect escaping fuel.
    3. 11.3. The fuel supply line must always be replaced after pulling off the corrugated connection piece.

  12. Pull the vacuum line off the vacuum pump.

  13. Remove torque support. → 103719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TORQUE SUPPORT 
  14. Loosen air box on throttle housing -1-  and disconnect lines.
    1. 14.1. Loosen screw-type clamp -2-  and pull air box -3-  off the throttle housing -1-  .
    2. 14.2. Loosen clamp, pull off pressure hose for ambient air -4-  and remove it from the holder -5-  .
    3. 14.3. Loosen clamp and pull off coolant line -6-  .
    4. 14.4. Replace throttle-housing cover.

  15. Remove strut -2-  at the lower lock carrier on both sides.
    1. 15.1. Unscrew fastening nut -3-  .
    2. 15.2. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  .
    3. 15.3. Remove strut -2-  on both sides.

  16. Loosen pressure pipe at the bottom of the charge-air cooler on both sides.
    1. 16.1. Loosen retaining clip and pull off pressure pipe -1-  .
    2. 16.2. Left side only:  Loosen clamp -2-  and pull pressure hose for tank vent line -3-  off the pressure pipe.

  17. Loosen intake pipes on the turbocharger at both sides.
    1. 17.1. Loosen retaining clip and pull off intake pipe -1-  .
    2. 17.2. Release and pull off tank vent line (left) and crankcase vent line -2-  (right).

  18. Release ATF lines -1-  and -2-  and pull them off.
    1. 18.1. Absorb and wipe off emerging ATF with a cloth.

  19. Loosen retaining clip and pull off coolant hoses for heating -1-  and -2-  on the cross panel -3-  .
    1. 19.1. Absorb and wipe off emerging coolant with a cloth.

  20. Remove coolant reservoir. → 194019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RESERVOIR
  21. Disconnect coolant line at the top of the radiator.
    1. 21.1. Loosen retaining clip and pull off coolant line -1-  .
    2. 21.2. Absorb and wipe off emerging coolant with a cloth.

  22. Pull off coolant line at the bottom of the radiator.
    1. 22.1. Loosen retaining clip and pull off coolant line.
    2. 22.2. Absorb and wipe off emerging coolant with a cloth.
  23. Release and disconnect vent line -1-  at the bleeder valve -2-  .

  24. Release low-pressure air-conditioning line -1-  using release tool T40149 -2-  and pull it off.
    1. 24.1. Close off air-conditioning lines using suitable stoppers.

  25. Disconnect air-conditioning line in the front left wheel housing.
    1. 25.1. Unscrew screw -1-  and pull off air-conditioning line -2-  .
    2. 25.2. Close off air-conditioning lines using suitable stoppers.

  26. Loosen clamp and pull off vacuum line for ambient air -1-  .

  27. Release and disconnect electric connector for the boost pressure sensor -1 -  .

  28. Unscrew nut -1-  and remove ground cable -2-  on the right side member -3-  .

  29. Disconnect electric plug connection -1-  , unclip line and move it aside.

  30. Disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the RPM sensor on both sides.

  31. Disconnect electric plug connection -2-  and release electric line -1 and 2-  from the holder.

  32. Unscrew fastening screw -1 -  and remove holder -2-  on both sides.

  33. Loosen brake calliper with brake hose connected and engage it on the upper trailing arm.

    Do not open the brake hose  .

    Vehicles without PCCB: 473919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BRAKE CALLIPER

    Vehicles with PCCB: 473919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BRAKE CALLIPER (PCCB)

  34. Remove upper trailing arm at the wheel carrier on both sides.
    1. 34.1. Unscrew fastening nut -2-  and remove fastening screw -1-  .
    2. 34.2. Loosen trailing arm in -direction of arrow -  .

  35. Loosen spring strut at the wishbone on both sides.
    1. 35.1. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  and loosen anti-roll bar at the spring strut.
    2. 35.2. Unscrew fastening nut -3-  and remove fastening screw -2-  .

  36. If the Porsche Doppel Kupplung (PDK) has to be removed, also complete the following tasks  .
    1. 36.1. Remove cross-strut for front-axle carrier. → 400819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT-AXLE SUPPORT
    2. 36.2. Remove anti-roll bar. → 407719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT ANTI-ROLL BAR
    3. 36.3. Loosen the steering gear on the front-axle carrier. → 489055 REPLACING POWER-STEERING GEAR
    4. 36.4. Loosen and unscrew both aluminum screws -3-  securing the engine to the bottom of the transmission.

  37. Unscrew fastening screws and remove heat shield.

  38. Disconnect electric plug connections -1 and 2-  and expose wiring harness in -direction of arrow -  .

  39. Unscrew fastening screw and pull universal joint off the steering gear.

  40. Loosen fastening screws on the front-axle carrier at both sides.
    1. 40.1. Before loosening the fastening screws, mark the installation position of the front-axle carrier with a felt-tip pen.
    2. 40.2. Loosen fastening screws -1, 2 and 3-  on both sides.

      Do not unscrew fastening screws fully!

  41. Loosen fastening screws on the transmission support.
    1. 41.1. Before loosening the fastening screws, mark the installation position of the transmission support with a felt-tip pen.
    2. 41.2. Loosen fastening screws -1 and 3-  .

      Do not unscrew fastening screws fully!

  42. Prepare unit elevating platform Master Gear unit elevating platform WE 1206  with the assembly fixture Assembly Fixture - Macan WE 1612  .
  43. Raise the elevating platform and guide front locating pins -1-  into the jacking points provided for this purpose on the body.

    Locating pins are only for guiding the assembly fixture and must not be fitted  .

  44. Guide rear assembly driver -1-  into the jacking points provided for this purpose on the body.

  45. Position steering knuckle bracket -2-  on the brake disc -1-  and secure with a wheel bolt.

  46. Adjust assembly drivers -1-  and bracket -2-  on the gear supports and ensure solid contact.

  47. Adjust the height of the other brackets and ensure solid contact.
  48. Position engine with transmission on assembly fixture - Macan WE 1612  .
  49. Unscrew fastening screws -1, 2 and 3-  on both sides.

  50. Unscrew fastening screws -1 and 3-  on the gear support.

  51. Guide out engine.
    1. 51.1. Gradually lower the elevating platform Master Gear unit elevating platform WE 1206  and engine/transmission unit by 7 cm.
  52. Disconnect locking cable on transmission.
    1. 52.1. Press locking cable -1-  off the ball joint -2-  .
    2. 52.2. Unscrew screws and remove locking cable support -3-  .

  53. Lower the engine further.
    1. 53.1. Continue to lower the engine using the elevating platform and also guide air-conditioning and coolant lines slowly with your hand.
    2. 53.2. Move engine out from under the vehicle using the elevating platform.
  54. Close off open lines with stoppers from outside.
