Replacing driver's airbag unit (only I-number 4UQ)

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

If the vehicle is fitted with I-number 4UQ  , you will need the part number of the driver's airbag unit, which is shown on the driver's airbag unit, for locking the airbag triggering unit.

Take a note of the part number of the driver's airbag unit.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester 3 9900  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in PIWIS Tester 3 9900  .

1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
2. Select the vehicle type if required.
3. In the overview  , press [F7] to switch to the Additional menu  . The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log?" appears. Press [F11] to continue.
4. Maintenance of vehicle data  must now be selected. Press [F12] to continue.
5. Compare the vehicle data with the vehicle equipment. Change the data if necessary.
6. Go back to the overview  .
7. Select the Airbag  control unit in the overview  and press [F12].
8. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
9. Lock  must now be selected. Press [F12] to continue.
10. Read and follow the warnings displayed on the Tester. Perform locking procedure according to menu guidance.
11. Switch off ignition and remove the remote control from the ignition lock.
12. Insert the remote control back into the ignition lock and switch on ignition.
13. Read out fault memory and erase it if necessary.
14. Perform function test: Switch the ignition off and then on again. The airbag warning light in the instrument cluster comes on and must go off again after a few seconds.
