Replacing instrument cluster

Replacing instrument cluster 

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester 3 9900  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in PIWIS Tester 3 9900  .

  1. Document the total mileage and fuel level.
  2. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  3. Select the vehicle type if required.
  4. Select the Instrument cluster  control unit in the overview  . Press [F12] to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press [F11] to continue.
  5. Maintenance/repairs  must then be selected.
  6. Control unit replacement  must now be selected. press [F12] to continue.
  7. Read data  must be selected. Press [F12] to continue and then press [F8] to start.
  8. Check the chassis number and press [F12].
  9. Switch off ignition and replace control unit. → 902519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
  10. Switch on ignition.
  11. Select the Instrument cluster  control unit in the overview  .
  12. Extended identifications  must now be selected.
  13. Vehicle identification number  must be selected.
  14. Enter the vehicle identification number  and press "Enter" to confirm your entry.
  15. Maintenance/repairs  must then be selected.
  16. Set total mileage  must now be selected. press [F12] to continue.
  17. Read the warning on the Tester. press [F12] to continue.
  18. Total mileage  must be selected. Then enter the value that was read out in Step  1, press "Enter" to confirm your entry and press [F8] to write data.
  19. Write service interval  must now be selected. press [F12] to continue.
  20. Read and follow the warnings displayed on the Tester. press [F12] to continue.
  21. Follow the instructions on the Tester. Look up and copy the servicing values from the customer service booklet. press [F12] to continue.
  22. Coding/programming  must be selected.
  23. Automatic coding  must now be selected. press [F12] to continue.
  24. Maintenance/repairs  must then be selected.
  25. Fuel tank calibration  must be selected. press [F12] to continue.
  26. Read the information on the Tester and press [F8] to start.
  27. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  28. Return to the control unit overview  .
  29. Check the function of the instrument cluster and fuel level gauge during the test drive.
